Prepare & Protect for the Perfect Pout
15th Feb 2013
Celebrities like Angelina Jolie know nothing of the stress of the everyday woman when it comes to having a ‘perfect pout’. For one, we weren’t all born with fabulously luscious lips, and two, we don’t have a make-up artist at our side to prep, apply and top up whenever we may need.
So for the everyday woman seeking Angelina-esque confidence in her lips, we say preparation and protection is the key.
If your lips have been prepped appropriately then you will find your colour will last longer, your lips will look juicy and luscious and hopefully minimal top-up will be needed for your perfect pout.
For fabulous lips:
1. Moisturise Daily
We are all users of moisturiser; whether it's for our hands, body or face, so why would we miss out the lips? They need help sometimes to stay hydrated and smooth, working hard all day, everyday, especially during the cold winter months. So if you don’t already, make sure you start moisturising everyday for super smooth, hydrated lips.
For an extra smooth base, occasionally try to lightly exfoliate your lips. This will clear away any dead skin and help you to avoid chapped, flakey lips in the long run (but and be sure to moisturise after you exfoliate to restore moisture for a 'pucka' pout).
[Top Tip – Make your own exfoliator at home: Simply mix together two teaspoons of sugar with a teaspoon of olive oil and half a teaspoon of honey, apply to the lips in circular motions, (some people like to use cotton buds or even a soft toothbrush to exfoliate), rinse off and then apply a moisturising lip balm of your choice].
3. Lip Balm: A lips' best friend
Allow an application of lip balm to be absorbed before you apply your make-up, this last minute hydration will mean your colour will last longer and your lips will still look luscious at the end of the evening.
4. Lay the foundations...
When you are applying your make-up/foundation make sure you cover your lips too, a liquid foundation makes for the perfect base for your lipstick, helping to lock in the colour for longer; and is the perfect blank canvas for your chosen colour.
5. Line them up...
Probably not for daily use, but perfect for a night out - use a neutral/nude lip pencil to line and fill the lips; this will help to maintain a strong lip colour and you can expect longer lasting coverage. (If you have smaller/thin lips, a pencil can offer definition and help make them look fuller).
6. Remove your make-up
At the end of the night be sure to remove your make-up properly; don’t leave your lipstick on until the morning, unless you wish for a super parched pout. Use a gentle make-up remover, followed by a moisturise, your lips really will appreciate it.
Now you can have luscious lips with minimal effort; you can renew and maintain your lips for super softness that even Angelina would be jealous of. So remember to moisturise and exfoliate and see the results in no time. All this fuss with celebrities needing make-up artists 24/7, now you can be your own beauty therapist for free.
