Get your summer glow right
12th Jul 2018
With temperatures reaching record highs as England’s heatwave is set to continue, it is more important than ever to look after your skin.
During the warmer months, oil production within the skin increases both from the heat and humidity causing unwanted break outs. Due to the increase of oil, the skin becomes congested and a culprit of this is chemical based sun creams. The skin also feels drier and sometimes tighter from the exposure to dry heat and not forgetting the air con units found within most commercial buildings. The plumpness and dewiness of our skin disappears as it dehydrates, making lines appear more prominent as the skins natural moisture dries up. All unwanted signs as we embark on our summer adventures whether that is a wedding, festival or our annual vacation.
Inflammation in the skin is caused from UV exposure and in turn, this is the main cause of ageing as the collagen is destroyed. The more our skin becomes damaged from the UV rays from the sun, the more it produces inflammation, leading to hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, wrinkles and dark spots.
This is why caring and protecting your skin during the hot summer months is so crucial!
Through using natural, organic products and a good skincare routine, you can:
- Delay signs of ageing
- Hydrates the skin, leaving a healthy glow
- Minimises breakouts
- Help prevent cancers
- Prolong effects and visible results of facials
It may come as a surprise, but drinking water is not enough to hydrate your skin. Regularly using products that repair and protect the skins barrier function to prevent moisture loss, as well as deeply nourishing products is just as important to maintain your skins hydration levels, preventing dehydration.
It is best to use a natural SPF product containing zinc to protect your skin from the sun. Here are our top 3 favourite natural based SPF products:
1. Bright Skin Moisturiser SPF 30
- Lightens pigmentation
- Decreases melanin production
- Combination / oily skin
3. Tinted moisturisers SPF 25
- Protects the skin from the sun
- All skin types
Two colours available
4. Sun defence mineral brushes SPF 30
- Protects the skin from the sun
- Available in a range of colours
Natural zinc SPF protection only needs to be applied once per day, unless it is washed or rubbed off intentionally.
Top tip: To help prevent breakouts, double cleanse to ensure all chemical based sunscreens have been removed from the skin.
An ideal facial at SenSpa to balance the skin, reduce oil production and breakouts, as well as lighten pigmentation and protect against further pigmentation would be the Eminence Super Greens Facial. A combination of leafy greens, eliminate toxins and brighten the skin, whilst stone crop lightens pigmentation. Cucumber and magnolia bark refine your pores and even the complexion. A must have, if you are suffering with breakouts in this hot weather!
If your skin has become drier, feels tighter and those fine lines have appeared, the ideal facial would be the Willow Hydrate and Glow Facial. Barbary fig is a powerful anti-oxidant which diminishes fine lines and reduces free radical damage, supporting cellular health. Rosehip and carrot stimulates cellular regeneration and increases collagen, helping to keep those signs of aging at bay. All products used will hydrate and nourish the skin, to provide that most needed hydration, preventing dehydration and leaving you with soft, supple and bright skin.
Regular body scrubs maintain a healthy tan and provide those long lasting effects that we all desire! The Santi, Invigorating Body Scrub is a superb scrub which uses Himalayan crystal rock salt to exfoliate the skin, preparing your skin for a healthy glow! Remember to sue a natural SPF product which repels dangerous UV rays. Aloe vera, argan and essential oils provide that much needed hydration, leaving your skin soft and supple.
