Treatment of the Month - Men's Anti-Stress Massage
15th Jul 2019
Spas are not just for women. With growing numbers of men looking for effective ways to relax, boost their mental health and retain their youthful vigour, “Men in the UK are visiting spas in greater numbers than ever before” says Mark The Spa Man
Traditionally, most men would be taken along to a spa by their partners for what was merely deemed as a ‘pamper’ session. But men are realising the experience has so many more benefits. For example, an Australian study found that a 10 minute post-workout massage could reduce muscle soreness by up to 31%.
So, what is the best treatment for our male spa-goes to have at SenSpa? Our Head Therapist, Tina Herridge highly recommends the anti-stress massage and here’s why:
What happens during the Anti-Stress Massage?
This massage is perfect for those who hold stress in the back and shoulders. Whether you spend your day sitting at a desk or have a physically demanding job, both scenarios may cause neck and shoulder pain and leave you in great need of some self-care time.
The massage works from the lower back, all the way up to the occipital, targeting areas which hold a lot of tension. A blend of essential oils including Perilla, Patchouli and Yarrow is used to support the relaxation of muscles as well as calming the mind. The therapist will adjust the pressure according to your needs and continue across the décolleté, shoulders and neck, before finishing with a scalp massage to relieve any stress you may be feeling.
What are the benefits?
This massage is specifically designed to relieve muscular tension in your back, neck and shoulders. Swedish massage techniques ease tension in the mind as well as in the body leaving you feeling lighter and calmer.
Perilla works as an anti-inflammatory removing dirt and impurities, cleansing the skin and helping to reduce breakouts due to stress. Patchouli helps to reduce mental stress, so whether you are feeling pressure from work, your home life or whatever else it may be, massaging with Patchouli can be a really effective antidote. Used as an anti-spasmodic, Yarrow will help to relax the muscles and nerves, therefore reducing spasms and their intensity. This could particularly help those who partake in sports with repetitive movements or are suffering from a sport injuries.
Please note: This treatment is not suitable for people who have had a heart attack, thrombosis, lung blood clot, operations within three months, if you are undergoing cancer treatment or are unable to lay on your front.
So rather than heading straight to the pharmacy when you’re in pain or taking your stress out on a golf club, why not give a massage a go?
“The only thing missing from this otherwise authentic experience, is the jet lag”.
