What is an Ayurvedic head massage?
3rd Apr 2019
The ancient techniques used in an Ayurvedic Head massage have been practiced for thousands of years to encourage relaxation and restore the energy balance throughout the entire body. This treatment focuses on the areas most prone to tension, the face, neck and head.
Our Head Therapist, Tina Herridge, explains a little bit more about this powerful treatment.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda gets its name from Sanskrit terms broken down “Ayus” means life and “veda” means knowledge together meaning “knowledge of life”. Ayurveda is considered the oldest form of healthcare in the world and originates from India and has been practiced for at least 5000 years. The origins of Ayurveda can be found in Hindu scriptures known as “vedas” - an ancient Indian book of wisdom which was written over 6000 years ago. Ayurveda is a medical system balancing the mind, body and soul and is believed if the body is balanced the person is in good health.
The massage strokes in SenSpa’s Ayurvedic Head Massage follow the flow of energy pathways called marma points which are much like the acupuncture points in Chinese medicine. The focus of marma point massage is primarily to positively manipulate energy (prana), but it’s also a great way to relieve stiff muscles.
