How to Get Back to Feeling HEALTHY After a Weekend of Behaving badly
4th Dec 2018
The party season is upon us and no doubt you have every weekend booked out in your diary for celebrating. However, all of that over-indulgence can really take it's toll on our body and mind, so we asked wellness expert and spa director, Lina Lotto to give us her expert advice on post-party recovery.
What affect would partying too hard have on our body? Are there any areas where we would feel it the most?
The party season usually means larger than normal amounts of alcohol and food. Eating and drinking too much places your liver under a lot stress especially if you don’t have a baseline healthy lifestyle. Whatever the case, your liver will take a pounding if you have overindulged, as one of its jobs is to filter and cleanse the bloodstream. Symptoms of an overtaxed liver can range from a feeling of lethargy to nausea and headaches. Those dark circles and puffy eyes are signs of a struggling liver and kidneys if we party too hard.
How can we combat this?
An enzyme that helps to process alcohol is found in the lining of the stomach; eating before you drink takes a little off the load for the liver. Alcohol is dehydrating so drink plenty of water to keep hydration levels high. Coconut water, which contains electrolytes and potassium is also a great alternative.
Any tips or tricks to have you feeling back to normal quicker?
Hydrate your body with water. Apply a good moisturiser and eye cream to maintain skin moisture levels and reduce dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. Have a warm 37°-39° Himalayan salt bath which helps to detoxify through the skin and replaces lost minerals. Get some sleep as it allows your own internal chemical lab to go to work on the job of healing.
Any must have products?
