Scentered & Aromatherapy
If you’re not quite familiar with Aromatherapy and all things essential oils, or have found you’ve heard of it but don’t quite know anything, then let’s dive in! At Scentered, we believe that aromatherapy can be used on the go, it doesn’t just need to be at home, you can just pop it in your bag! By using it regularly it can help to boost your mind and mood in a positive way. We are loyal users of Aromatherapy, and we may be slightly biased but we've seen a real boost in how we feel, thanks to our balms and candles.
So...
What Are Essential Oils?
A key question, what are they? Essential oils are a form of alternative medicine often used in aromatherapy. They are derived from plant extracts and help support mental and physical wellbeing. Breathing in a certain scent can affect your brain’s limbic system, which is responsible for your memories, emotions and stimulation. Essential oils are tools to help lift your mood or transition how you’re feeling throughout the day, which is a very important part of you to determine how you feel. You want to feel focused throughout your working day but once you get home, would you love to feel more relaxed? Aromatherapy and essential oils practiced regularly can most certainly assist this often-tricky navigation.
How Does Aromatherapy Work On Our Wellbeing?
Essential oils enter our bodies either by absorption through the skin or inhalation via the nose. They can affect the body and create an effect quicker than taking a pill, which must travel to the stomach and begin to be digested before any effect can be seen.
Inhalation:
When we inhale essential oils through the nose, the airborne molecules of the oil interact with the olfactory organs and can interact with the brain almost immediately. The olfactory system has a direct connection to brain structures involved in memory and emotion (hippocampus, thalamus, amygdala, frontal cortex – the limbic system).
How Can They Affect Your Mood?
Now, as much as we would all love to believe that aromatherapy is the magical answer to everything (we at Scentered are impartial), sadly, this is not how it works. One of the key elements of all things aromatherapy is that they won’t be able to help if you’re not open to it! Make sure that you’re using it with an open mind and positive attitude, and it tends to have more of an effect that way.
Different scents will bring different mood transitions so it’s about knowing what mood you want to transition to. If you’re feeling down and negative, it can be useful to try a scent with Grapefruit, Lemon and Mint. Which can be found in our Happy Aromatherapy Balm. However, if you’re struggling to fall asleep at night, it’s best to use an essential oil with hints of Lavender, Chamomile or Palma Rosa, like our Sleep Well Collection.
Why Should You Use Aromatherapy?
A very common reason for people to start exploring the world of aromatherapy and essential oils is because they’re either stressed or sleep deprived. Whether you’re experiencing feelings of stress and anxiety because of work or private matters. Aromatherapy helps you often de-stress and wind down after a stressful day of work. Try our De-stress Aromatherapy range, which is a soothing blend that promotes relaxation, calmness and relief from stress. Doesn’t that sound dreamy?
You can even pair multiple essential oils together for maximum effect! Keep them on your person throughout the day, it allows you to transition moods whenever needed. The great thing is with aromatherapy balms they’re no mess, no fuss thrown in your bag no matter where you’re going. Stay focused during the working day with Focus, spend quality time with loved ones to share the love and escape for everyday life.
